Lewis Stratton

Your expertise?

I have a diverse work history, with senior roles in community services, education, legal and justice services, transport, and infrastructure. I have worked in work health and safety (WHS) roles since 2003, and as a self-employed consultant since 2014. My degree in Psychology and an Advanced Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety allow me to appreciate workplace safety from both a systems and a worker perspective.

I maintain industry knowledge as an active member of the Australian Institute of Health and Safety and as a consultant to industries, including viticulture, primary industries, construction, renewable energy, food manufacturing, disability services, SCUBA diving, and many more. This experience and training also helps me to remain meaningfully connected to the working world.

Your work with ASC?

It has been my privilege to provide WHS related training through ASC Training and Development since 2015. Primarily this has been Health and Safety Representative training (Years 1, 2 and 3) but has also included Certificate IV in WHS training and Risk Management modules.

What do you think makes a great learning experience?

As a facilitator, I really appreciate a shared approach to learning with participants. Through discussion, questions, and comments we can apply key principles to specific WHS issues faced by participants.

One fun fact about you?

As a keen SCUBA diver and motorcyclist, I often reflect on how these interests fit with my ‘risk management’ functions. My perspective is to determine what is important and then apply the best risk minimisation strategies available.
