Assessor Skill Set (for Registered Secondary Teachers)

The Assessor Skill Set is the minimum requirement for assessors working for a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

This course is designed for registered secondary teachers and takes into account their current experience as educators in the secondary high school context.

As of 1 March 2024, secondary school teachers with relevant qualifications may train and assess within the VET sector, providing they complete either the TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set or the TAESS00024 VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set.

In simple terms, this means that registered secondary teachers are no longer required to complete the full Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to train and assess in VET.

$960 (GST free)

Please note: Nationally recognised training is GST free.

To enrol in this course you must:

  • be able to demonstrate vocational competency in the field where you intend to or currently teach.
  • be currently registered as a secondary teacher (in Australia).
  • be able to commit to all 3 days scheduled as well as 3-4 hours of your own time for each assessment (assessment tasks are completed between sessions).

Recognised Prior Learning

If you believe you have relevant prior skills and knowledge which covers your current learning, please contact us. You will need to provide documentary evidence as proof of RPL.

This qualification is made up of 3 units of competency from the TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

  • TAEDES411 Use nationally recognised training products to meet vocational training needs
  • TAEASS412 Assess competence
  • TAEASS413 Participate in assessment validation

  • Assessment is competency based. You will be assessed as ‘Competent’, ‘Partially Complete’ or ‘Not Yet Competent’ for each unit of competency.
  • You will be invited to resubmit work until competency can be demonstrated.

Our graduates tell us that this course has given them:

  • a better understanding of how to design assessment tools
  • the confidence to plan and validate assessment processes and activities
  • the ability to make credible assessment decisions based on evidence provided
  • more confidence in conducting assessments in the VET context
  • employment and professional development opportunities as teachers in VET.

Teachers enrolling in a full Certificate IV in Training and Assessment will receive credit for these three units.
